Frequently Asked Questions

Why ‘Saffron Ceremonies’?

As I wasn't born in the Duchy, but have lived here all my adult life, this is my subtle nod to being proud of Cornwall. Sadly my heritage means pasty prowess evades me, but I can make a bleddy 'ansum saffron bun! The same love and time that goes into my baking goes into creating wonderful ceremonies.

Where do you cover?

I am based in Cornwall and cover the whole county. I will travel further afield, but this has to be by special arrangement and will incur travel and possible accommodation expenses. These would be agreed prior to booking.

Will our wedding/naming ceremony be legally binding?

No, at the moment celebrant-led services are not legally binding, so you would have to arrange the legal element separately with the Registrar Services in your local authority. The registrar’s services are standardized whereas a celebrant-led service is a totally unique celebration to you.

Where can we hold our ceremony?

Absolutely anywhere: you are free to hold your celebration wherever you chose. Inside or outside, in licensed venues or
even in your own home, hold your ceremony in a place that feels right for you. I love beach or cliff top ceremonies just as much as rustic barns and stately venues.

When can we hold our ceremony?

Any time at all. With a celebrant led service you can have your ceremony at the time of your choosing. There are no limitations, unlike the Registrar’s restrictions.

What is the difference between an independent celebrant and a humanist celebrant led ceremony?

A humanist ceremony is entirely secular and will not have any religious or spiritual content. An independent celebrant offers total flexibility: I can do an entirely secular ceremony or include spiritual or religious elements like blessings and symbolic rituals. I can bring together elements of different faiths (for example, if a couple hold different beliefs) to create a bespoke, unifying celebration of their love or their love of their child/ren.

Will you write the ceremony for us?

I would love to - it’s what I do. The first stage is finding out about you, your love story or your family story to get to know you. I will work with you to decide on the content and structure, finding out what elements you want included and then start the creative part, writing a bespoke ceremony that reflects you.

How involved will we be in the process?

You are at the heart of the process, and I want you to be as involved as you wish. You may want to write your own vows, choose your music, include rituals, or involve friends and family. I’ll always be happy to help, and love creating interactive, inclusive, unforgettable ceremonies.

Can we involve our children or pets?

Most definitely! I adore children and can always find ways to involve them that is age appropriate. If your venue allows pets, then of course please include them: there are a variety of ways that your pets can play a role. I do recommend you appoint a pet guardian /groom to free you up though when your attention is needed elsewhere. I can make recommendations for local dog chaperones and free-lance grooms if this is helpful.

Do you offer a ceremony rehearsal?

Whenever logistically possible I do love to offer a walk through before the big day. This can be very reassuring for everyone involved, but is subject to the agreement of your venue.

How far in advance do we need to book?

When you decide that you wish to work with me, I recommend paying the booking deposit to secure your date. I only carry out one ceremony a day, so you can then relax, knowing you will have my full attention and there will be no time pressure. At a time to suit you, I can begin to create your special service.

Are you insured?

Yes
